I wanted to write something in response… but the feeling it stirred was too deep, and words felt too small. It’s one of those rare moments where the heart understands more than language ever could. Just know it reached me.
Thank you for reading it and for your lovely words 🩶
Ha, you might just get the Alternate Cut one day. Funny, isn't it, how changing a few lines steers a poem in a completely different direction. I've written another one recently, figure skater, which has a 'longer version'. Just three more lines, but it lands the poem totally different. Just fascinating.
Oh, yes, that is absolutely fascinating to me as well. To be able to see the possibility for where a piece takes you, and see that it could take you almost anywhere, on any given day, one poem could become a whole different creature. I find it exhilarating.
I love the idea of 'alternate cuts' and 'longer versions'... I've always thought that was so cool in music, and it feels gorgeous for poetry, too. You are a true artist. <3

Oh, now I don't know what to say. Thank you 🩶
This is a beautiful poem, Nick. I love the melancholy ending, it rings through my poetic heart. That beautiful sadness.
I’d love to hear also the existential ending… you have me intrigued…
